Volunteering in Kisumu – Beth Allin, 2007

I spent 2 weeks volunteering in Kisumu where I visited local hospitals, schools and a street children’s centre, as well as helping to build a feeding centre. After this I was able to travel around Kenya for a few weeks.

The highlights of my trip were:

1. Seeing a baby being born in a local hospital, it was incredible to witness this miracle in a place full of such poverty.

2. Reaching the top of Mount Kenya in a snow blizzard, a challenging but thoroughly enjoyable experience.

3. Seeing elephants in the wild which has always been a dream of mine.

It was an absolutely unforgettable experience and I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped me raise the money to go on the trip of a lifetime and who made such an amazing adventure possible. Thank you.
